22 Adventures to Add to Your Italy Bucket List

Italy is a beautiful country home to cobblestone streets and the Colosseum in Rome, bridges and canals in Venice, art galleries and museums in Florence, churches and palaces in Milan, and amazing views in Cinque Terre and Lake Como. A visit to Italy should be at the TOP of your bucket list! Below are 22 adventures to add to your Italy bucket list.
1-Enjoy a View in Cinque Terre-

Cinque Terre offers incredible views of turquoise water. You will witness the view from beautiful pastel-colored buildings on the mountainous terrain called the Maritime Alps. Manarola is the village in Cinque Terre that is most iconic because a photo of this town went VIRAL online; however, we recommend going to other towns also, including Vernazza and Monterosso.

Vernazza is home to a small cove where you can swim or enjoy a boat ride.

Monterosso is the largest town with TWO beautiful beaches, restaurants, shops, and places to stay. Don’t forget to try limoncello, a popular lemon-flavored drink.
2-Ride a Vespa-
Vespa is a luxury brand of scooters and mopeds that you will find in Italy!! DO NOT ride a Vespa in crowded areas of the city! I recommend going to the countryside so that you are safe when you go for a ride for the first time.
3-Ski in the Alps-
Did you know? The mountains on the border between Italy and Switzerland are almost identical. You can enjoy skiing or snowboarding on either side!!
4-Michelangelo’s Statue of David at Galleria Academia-

WOW! I have no words for the beautiful statue of David created by Michelangelo. The Galleria Academia WAS STUNNING. You will see HUNDREDS of sculptures in the gallery; however, the Statue of David, created between 1501 and 1504, is the largest.
5-Admire the Art at the Uffizi Gallery-

When I say this is the BEST Gallery I have EVER been to, I mean it. You will NOT regret adding this to your ITALY bucket list. You will find oil paintings from artists including Leonardo da Vinci and Caravaggio!
6-Enjoy the Local Food: Cappuccino, Gelato, Pizza, Pasta, Ravioli, Cannoli’s, Wine…-

ITALY has the best Cappuccino in the world based on personal experience. It doesn’t matter which cafe or restaurant you go to because EVERY coffee you order you will enjoy! Don’t forget to indulge in gelato, cannolis, pizza, pasta, ravioli, and wine.
7-Toss a Coin in the Trevi Fountain-

Although the Trevi Fountain is overcrowded and touristy, it is worth a visit because of how beautiful and majestic it is. The fountain features Neptune, the god of the sea.
8-Watch an Opera-
Book tickets at the Teatro La Fenice Opera House to have a unique leisure experience enjoying opera music!
9-Gondola Ride in Venice-

Go on a gondola ride or boat ride in Venice to see the beautiful canals and bridges from a new, unique perspective.
10-Doge’s Palace in Venice-

WOW! I have NO words for how stunning the ceilings are at the Doge’s Palace, with iconic oil paintings and gold frames. Also, DO NOT get lost in the dungeons underground in the Palace. Don’t go to the dungeons if you are claustrophobic.
11-Drive the Almafi Coast-

The Almafi Coast has pastel fishing villages, small beaches, and a coastal road to drive along for EPIC views! Be sure to stop at Positano!
12-Explore Pompeii-
Pompeii is an archaeological site, once a Roman city, in southern Italy near Naples. The streets and houses were buried in ash after a volcanic eruption in 79 A.D.
13- Take a photo with the Leaning Tower of Pisa-

The tower is known for its 4-degree lean! The tower is leaning and was built this way by accident from poor planning. The clay and sand were not strong enough to hold the building.
14-Ferry to Capri and see the Blue Grotto-

The island of Capri off of the Almafi Coast is STUNNING. Near Capri, you will find the Blue Grotto, a cave with aqua-blue water that lights up in the darkness.
15- Tour the Colosseum-

The Colosseum is one of the seven wonders of the world! It is no doubt that it MUST be on your Italy BUCKET LIST! The main amphitheater dates back to AD 72. A small group tour is the best way to see the building because you can skip the line, but also because they will teach you about the gladiator fights that once took place inside. Did you know? Gladiators would not only fight each other but also ferocious animals! Criminals would be fed to the starving animals, too.
16-Climb a Volcano in Sicily-
You can hike Mount Etna Volcano in Sicily but BE CAREFUL because it is an ACTIVE volcano.
17-Boat Tour in Lake Como-
Lake Como is a beautiful location in Italy and what better way to experience it than to take a boat ride through it? The lake is in northern Italy along the foothills of the Alps. Bellagio is the most beautiful town to explore along Lake Como.
18 -See the Florence Duomo-

While Italy has incredible cathedrals, the Duomo is one of the most ICONIC churches. The orange dome is not hard to miss. The church is free to visit.
19 -Wine Tasting in Tuscany-

There are many wineries to visit in Tuscany in the Chianti region. Don’t forget to try Chianti Classico wine.
20 -Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel-

WOW! The Vatican is an experience you WON’T ever forget.
Bonus -Milan Cathedral-

The Milan Cathedral is the second largest church in Europe. You will not be disappointed when you visit. While you can admire the view of the Cathedral’s intricate detail on the outside, be sure to see the inside too.
