50 European Countries in Alphabetical Order

Europe is one of my favorite continents, from the breathtaking landscapes to the warm, kind-hearted locals. There are many different cultures to learn about and historical buildings to explore. From going island hopping in Croatia to admiring the views on a scenic train ride in Switzerland, you will never be bored in Europe. Below is a list of 50 European Countries in alphabetical order and a few things to do in each country!

1: Albania-

Albanian Riviera

Albania is situated in southeastern Europe, bordered by the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, and is surrounded by the stunning Albanian Alps. Don’t forget to see the main square called Skanderbeg Square in Tirana, the capital city of Albania. If I ever go to Albania, I would add the Albanian Riviera to my itinerary, home to beautiful coastal towns, crystal clear waters, and stunning beaches.

Andorra is a small country along the Pyrenees mountains known for its ski resorts. According to research, the best place to go skiing or snowboarding in Andorra is at Grandvalira.

Austria is a mountainous country in south-central Europe. Popular places to visit in Austria include Hallstatt and Vienna, the capital city. Be sure to get a stunning view of Vienna at the Dunabe Tower. When I travel to Vienna, I will admire the art at the Belvedere Palace!

Azerbaijan is a country in both Asia and Europe. Popular things to do in Azerbaijan are to explore the mud volcanos and see Baku’s old city!

Belgium is in Western Europe and is most famous for its local food, including its delicious chocolate, beer, and waffles! Brussels, the capital city, is home to the Grand Place and many art museums to explore. When I travel to Belgium, I will add a day trip to Bruges and Ghent from Brussels to my itinerary!

  • Take a boat tour of Bruges’ picturesque canals.
  • Visit the Belfry of Bruges for a breathtaking view.
  • Explore the Markt square and sample local waffles.

  • Explore St. Bavo’s Cathedral and see the famous Ghent Altarpiece.

7. Bosnia and Herzegovina-

Bosnia and Herzegovina is a country rich in culture. If you love to learn about new cultures, visit the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo. The most famous places are the Stari Most or Old Bridge and the Old Bazaar in Mostar.

Croatia is a beautiful country known for its stunning coastlines and crystal clear water. My favorite adventures were the five-island speedboat tour to the Blue Cave and Hvar from Split and exploring the incredible KRKA National Park.

Cyprus is a beautiful island in the Eastern Mediterranean. We recommend booking a sunset cruise for breathtaking views of Cyprus from the crystal clear water! You even have the opportunity to go for a swim on the tour!

  • Explore the ancient ruins, including Kourion.
  • Stroll along Ledra Street, a pedestrian street crossing, perfect for shopping.
  • Relax at the beautiful beaches like Nissi Beach.
  • Book a tour to Fig Tree Bay.

11.Czech Republic-

The Czech Republic is in Central Europe, home to the capital called Prague, most famous for its medieval architecture, including the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle.

Denmark is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. The capital, Copenhagen, features the iconic Nyhavn Harbor and Tivoli Gardens Amusement Park. I recommend booking a walking tour to see the main highlights of Copenhagen with a local!

  • See the Rosenborg Castle, a beautiful Renaissance castle housing the Danish crown jewels.
  • Stroll along the Roskilde Cathedral, a burial place of many Danish kings and queens.

Tallinn, Estonia

Estonia is in the Baltic region of Europe. The capital, Tallinn, is home to a well-preserved medieval old town. The best way to see the picturesque old town and cobbled streets is on a guided tour to see the main attractions and learn about their history.

Finland is famous for its sauna culture, beautiful lakes, and the Midnight Sun. Lapland is a top destination for winter outdoor activities. You can even catch the Northern Lights in Finland!

France is famous for its rich history, art, cuisine, and fashion. Paris, the capital, is home to iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Due to the tragic fire, the cathedral is still closed to tourists. A walking tour to discover Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur Basilica will be worth every penny. I LOVED Paris, but the next time I travel to France, I will visit the city of Cannes because my sister goes every year for work and always recommends this destination to me.

16. Georgia-

Tbilisi

Georgia, situated at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, has diverse landscapes. Exploring Tbilisi’s Old Town on a guided tour will be worth it! You will see famous landmarks like the 13th-century Metekhi Church.

  • Visit the ancient city of Mtskheta.
  • Enjoy the landscapes of Kazbegi National Park.


17. Germany-

Germany has a rich cultural heritage. The best way to experience the culture in Germany is to attend Oktoberfest in Munich or the Christmas markets in Nuremberg. I will be taking a day trip to Rothenburg from Munich this year. I can’t wait to explore the picturesque old town, as shown in the photo below.

18. Greece-

Greece is famous for its beautiful islands and iconic white-washed and blue-colored buildings. Athens, the capital, is home to landmarks like the Acropolis. Ari and I explored the ancient ruins on our own time and did not know what we were looking at. I recommend booking a TOUR to see the ruins! We also traveled to Santorini to see the famous sunset in Oia and relax at the volcanic beaches, including Perissa Beach. Next time I travel to Greece, I would LOVE to book the tour to see Navagio Beach on Zakynthos, as shown in the photo below.

19. Hungary-

Hungary, located in Central Europe, is noted for its stunning architecture and thermal baths. Budapest, the capital, is known for its historic sites, including the Buda Castle and the Parliament Building. If you want to experience the nightlife in Budapest, book a pub tour to experience the Ruin Bars in the Jewish Quarter.

Iceland is known for its unique landscapes, including volcanoes, geysers, and waterfalls. My dream is to relax at the geothermal spa called the infamous Blue Lagoon.

Italy is renowned for its historic sites, art, and cuisine. Major cities to visit include Rome, Florence, and Venice! Italy has given the world master artists like Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci and beloved culinary staples such as pasta and pizza. Adventures to add to your list of things to do in Italy include touring the Colosseum to learn about ancient Rome and the infamous gladiatorial battles and hiking between the beautiful coastal villages of Cinque Terre. Lastly, you must climb the Duomo and take in breathtaking views of Florence from the dome.

23. Kazakhstan-

Kazakhstan, the world’s largest landlocked country, features diverse landscapes. The capital, Nur-Sultan, is known for its futuristic architecture, including the Bayterek Tower.

  • Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi – A UNESCO World Heritage site in Turkestan.
