7 Tips to Prepare You for Visiting Bermuda

My Experience:

I traveled to Bermuda in August 2016 with my family, including my three sisters and parents. We enjoyed the stunning pink sand beaches, scenery, exhilarating motorbike rides, and nightlife. I will never forget snorkeling in reefs offering views of amazing corals and marine life and swimming in the limestone crystal caves. To save you from surprises, listed below are seven travel tips that you need to know to prepare you for visiting Bermuda!

Tip #1: Book Your Flights in Advance-

Book rooms and flights in advance if you want cheap accommodation. Bermuda is just 2 hours away from New York and East Coast Cities. If you are coming to New York, I suggest finding a non-stop flight to Bermuda’s Hamilton International on JetBlue, Continental, or American. I highly recommend comparing flights to Bermuda for the cheapest flight on Kayak or Hopper.

Tip #2: Don’t Drink the Tap Water-

Stick to fruity alcoholic drinks or bottled water to not get sick. Tap water is usually rainwater collected from the roof. Always ask the hotel for clean drinking water.

Tip #3: Look Out for Stinging Jellyfish-

More specifically, look out for the Portuguese Man o’War. My mom got stung by this dangerous purple creature and was in pain for 24 hours. The Man o’War is not a jellyfish. They are known as siphonophores. They are hard to see; however, keep a lookout for warnings.

Tip #4: U.S. Dollars are Accepted-

In Bermuda, the locals speak English. They use a currency called the Bermuda dollar.

1 Bermuda dollar is equal to 1 U.S. Dollar.
The U.S. Dollar and credit cards are accepted.
ATMs are readily available.

Tourists call Bermuda the impossible budget destination because you would need at least $175 US Dollars per day to travel there; however, there are affordable activities that you can enjoy in Bermuda that I will list below.

There is a long stretch of sand and clear blue water.
Accommodation is super expensive and there are no hostels.

Affordable Activities:

Visiting Jobson’s Cove
Hike up Fort Scaur to catch views of The Great Sound.
You can ride on the Sea Express to the top of Gibbs’ Hill Lighthouse.

Tip #5: You Cannot Rent Cars, Only Motorbikes and Scooters!

Motorbikes are the most convenient and thrilling form of transportation because they will give you more freedom to travel at a lower cost. You can rent your motorbike from Elbow Beach Cycles!

Tip #6: The Island is Known for its Pink Sand Beaches and Crystal Caves-

We swam in the crystal caves and went to the pink sand beaches. I highly recommend completing both and packing your camera for epic photos! Swimming in the cave and watching the limestones form was a unique experience.

There is pink sand because of millions of tiny red sea creatures, including clams. The sea creatures, crushed by the powerful waves, washed up on the beach.
